Probably, like so nv;wi,v other "inventions"—envelopes anti coloured pnper. for example—blotting paper was the result of a happy accident Although not a new invention it was comparatively littlo used .before IS4O. Sand was sprinkled oil the written, paper to absorb th-> in.lv' and old desks contain places where the sand casters or boxes were kept.
