Deputation from Levin
TO HON. R. BUDDO. GETS NO SATISFACTION. (Special to Howwhenua. Chronicle). WELLINGTON, 2 .p.m., Friday. A deputation from Levin waited 011 the Hon. R. Buddo to-day in rel'eronee to the Horowhenua Racing Club's extinction in accordance with the provisions oi' the .Racing Commi.s.sioners' recommendation. Mr Ficid. M.P., who introduced the deputation, sta.tedi that the contemplated extinction of the Levin Racing Club was the biggest injustice to°;t community that bad bee,ll done for years, and if it was carried out would mean the extinction of the Horowhenua A. and P. Show also. Mr Gardener, Mayor of Levin, also spolco, and pointed out that al-thou-rh Levin was the principal town between Wellington and Palmorston. North, its meeting was to bo eliminated while tliOso of small**' centres were unaltered. The Minister, replying, stated that the recommendations would have to come into forco on August 1, and' he would havo no option but to anake them affective. There_ was a statutory obligation upon him to d'o so. Mi- Field then commented that he thought it likely, knowing the temper of Parliament as he did;, that in a. few years the racing club's in New Zealand must find themselves without a totalisator and withbut a bookmaker if the policy enunciated by Mr Buddo, in t'erms of the present Act. was to be the spirit.
flie deputation is returning to Levin with a feeling that it got no satisfaction from the Minister.
