The Queen and Poor Patient.
I*—. — When visiting Haslar Hospital in July last, the Queen's attention \ras drawn to one of the patients, a .third-class naval writer, named George cle Matose, who was suffering from injuries sustained whilst playing in a Service football match. His right log had to be amputated, and, after his discharge from hospital, being without employment and dependent for support upon his widowed mother, Do M'atogo wrote to the Queen, explaining his lUiifort'Uui.ate position. Her Majesty .promptly secured employment for him in Portsmouth Dockyard as a writer, hut in Fehrnuary last De .Matoso was attacked with cancer in fsho lungs. The Queeai, whoso attention was again called: to tihe case, sent a specialist'to see him, as the unfortunate young man wished to secii.ro admission to Hnslar Hospitail, being under th'e impression that he .would recover there. The specialist could oiiiily pronounce the case to bo hopeless, -and in May last De Matose died.
