LEVIN STOCK"SALES. BUYERS FROM PALMKRSTON NORTH. There were fairly good attendances at the Levin stock sales yestcrday, but on account of .the' inclement weather stock did not com© forward in advertised numbers. A farmer told a Chronicle reiporter that taking things all through the sales were distinctly better tlh'an was the case twelve months ago, and he opined that steady progress -would! continue to be tihe case. He- said that tlh'ere would have uiidoubtedly been larger sales yesterday but for the fact that fanners preferred to hold over until next sale dlay. Stock,

he. added, was good considering th'o dry season .which, had experienced, towards the end of the autumn. At Messrs Dalgety s yards there, were particularly good yartlr iiies of fat sheep and hoggets. For libggets there was a big ttemancl, and these sold well above late rates 4 . Only a small number of buyers was prosent. Competition for .all lines was very keen. Mr J R.. McDonald yarded some very fine . ewes. Messrs Abraham and Williams had a good yarding of both sheep and cattle. Nearly all lots changed hands under the hammer.,, Buyers were present from Wellington, andi Palmerston North—a fact which speaks well for the future of the sales. DALGETY AND CO. Report on their sale as followfi*. "We submitted a large number of sheep,- but only a small one of cattle. the latter'being passed in not bringing owners reserves. Competition for all lots of sheep was keen, especially for hoggets, which showed'an advance in price. "We offered, on account of a client, five £5 shares (£4 fulk; paid up), in Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., but there did not appear to he any demand for that class of investment as we had to pass the shares in at the low bid of ,C 1 each. We quote:

Sheep.—Fat wethers, 13s 8d to 16s 8d; fat ewes, 12s fid to 15s; empty ewes, 7s 6d; fat lambs, 9s 9d lis 6d; hoggets, os 9d< and 7s lOd. THE LEVIN ATJCTIONEERING COMPANY The Levin Auctioneering Co. report on their pig and: poultry sale, held at Levin yesterday: A good eivtry came forward, 71 pigs of all classes being penned, the majority of which were porkers.
