The players whose names lie submitted were unable to get a game in the seniors: F. Robinson, K. AVankbyn, P. Touhey, "W. Cook, and E. Savill. It was decided to re-classify the players as juniors. CHARGE OF ADMISSION. Mr Ayre, of Otaki, wrote stating the receipts of the "gate" >at tlm Otaki match on Saturday, and adding that he was afraid the charge of one shilling would have to be dropped, as lie had heard that a "good few" intended to pass next time without paying at all if a shilling was demanded, as the ground, being pivblic domain, the Union could not charge at all. They were prepared to hell) the Union to the extent of sixpence. Mr Fasther remarked thnt the Union was getting better gates at Otaki under the new arrangement than it ever bad done before.
The chairman stated that the charge could not be reduced in fine place and enforced in another. There must be uniformity in charges. No action was taken in tlio. matter. OH ATT SCHOOL. The headmaster of the Ohau school wrote stating he could not enter a school fifteen for the competition this year, much as he would like to, owing to there being only about two boys in the school who would be any good in a third class team. The letter was noted. AN ABSENTEE. The secretary reported that Mr Movnihan bail, telephoned to say he would not ne able to be present at the meeting. The chairman said that Mr Moyliihan should forfeit bis seat on the coinmitteo. It was 110 good having a man on the committee if lie onlyattended oik! meeting out of severe It was docided that Mr Moynihan forfeit* his seat 011 the committee, and Mr 'Whiblev, of Foxton, was appointed to fill the vacancy. " TR'IPFTXG OPPOXEXTS. Mr "NY. R. Burge, referee in the junior match, Taiiiui v. Weraroa, played on Saturday, reported having ordered off the field Hetariki, of the "Weraroa. team, and Winterburn, 0;f the Tainui team for tripping opponents. Hetariki, who attended the meeting, said that he was amongst the forward?, in a rush down the field. An. opponent was picking nip tlio ball, and lie went to dribble it past him. He (the speaker) kicked the ball, and at the same time on© of his legs struck his r 'oppon&nt's, which brought both to the ground. The referee stated that he was standing just behind Hetariki, and' the occurrence did take - place- during a rush. From his position it appeared to him to be a deliberate trip, and consequently he ihad- no other alternative than to order him off the field. The explanation given by the player was'a. feasible one, hut from'liis position it apeared to him to bo a deliberate trip, and 3i© wmildi
hare ordered another player off raider similar circumstances. There was a lot of the "tripping going oil, and it was hard to discriminate between the accidental' and the intentional. He had cautioned players during the game for tripping, but as he could not 'toll whether it was 1 intentional or othenviso lie could' not deal with the players, as lie would not order anyone off the field unless llie was absolutely certain, in, his own the action merited it. The referee asked .permission to leave the room while the matter ■was being discussed, as 'he <$ould not act as accuser and judge. Other evidence was submitted thnt the tripping was .accidental, ami it was resolved that in view of the. evidence and the circumstances of the ease, no action be taken in the matter. Tn the case of Winterbuirn the evidence showed that one player Irad the ball in his possession when he was tripped by Winterburn. Wmterhunn was not present at the meeting, although the secretary slated that 'he .had written to him, care of the secretary of the Tainui olu!b, audi had marked the letter "urgent." The chairman said that plenty of time bad elapsed for. the player to get the letter. He added 1 that it was essential that tripping should be put down with a firm hand. Winterlmrn was suspended for four playing Saturday's, to date from to-day. SHANNON'S TROUBLES. Tn reference to the complaint from Mr Smith, referee in the match Shannon v. Levin, as t-o the ,con-, duct of Timms and S. Cootes on the field of play—Timnis for disputing and heckling and Cootes for stating that he would stand the referee on the line—it was decided, on tlio motion of Mr Easther, seconded by the chairman, that Timnis be suspended for two playing Saturday's, •and Cootes for four playing Saturday's, dating from to-day.
