THE NEW LEAGUE
AND ITS POLTCY. MR SKERRETT ELECTED PRESIDENT. [PBR PRI3B ABIOOLITION.] WELLINGTON, May 29. Mr C. P. Skerrett, K.C!, was elected president at a general meeting to-night of the newly-formed Citizens' League. A policy Avas agreed to as follows: —" To closely watch all social movements and propaganda and keep fully informed thereof; to take all steps AA'ithin its poAver to ensure that laws and regulations slhall be formulated, executed and admini*tered by moderate and honourable citizens, and to oppose the election or appointment of unsuitable persons to any office; in partiular to oppose any reduction in the threefifths majority in connection Avith National or Local Option, and oppose* any attempt to abolish the sale of liquor altogether; to support all reasonable regulations of the liquor traffic; to oppose any further restriction on reasonable gaining by adults; and to oppose any .restriction on the enjoyment by individuals of reasonable recreation on Sunday."
