When Growing Wheat.

From experiments conducted on Coolabah (and Cowra experimental farms, the following conclusions hnvo Ite-en drawn with regard to wheat, says an Australian Journal: (1) For breaking new Kind, that is not to : bc fallowed, or ploiighing-in weed growth just prior to planting the mould-jboard plough is to be preferred k> the disc. (2) Deep ploughing (8 inches) with the disc is not injurious. Under some conditions deep ploughing with the mould-board may l>e detrimental to the yield. (3) There is very little difference in the results from the several depths ploughed, but it seems likely that it is more important to plough thor'ougjhly than deeply. Fivo or six inches may he considered to the nio«t satisfactory depth to use in practice. (<l.) The results from suhsoiling are variable-. Tii the drier districts and on the heavier soils as at Coolabah, it is likely to prove beneficial. (5.) As tinder some conditions the direct application of fertiliser prkives extremely beneficial, it is advisable until the factors governing the.se conditions are understood, to apply fertiliser directly with all wheat crops, unless experiments .have shown such application to he unnecessary.
