.—.—b . The Acting-Prime Minister (Hon. James Carroll was interviewed on May 11 by a deputation from the Ngatitoa tribe, accompanied by Mr W. H. Field, M.P., to" lay beforo him the grievances of the Ngatitera and Ngatihanmni liapns, which* have been the subject of a parliamentary petition. The allegation of the petitioners is that certain reserves promised in Plimmerton district have not been set apart, and that the Government took more land from the natives at Paeknkariki than was actually purchased. Tlie deputation desired full enquiry to be mad© by a .judge of the Native Land Court of a Commissioner. The Minister promised to lay the matter before Cabinet.
