The Miners Phthisis Bill has heen withdrawn and General Smuts will introduce a short Bill levying £25,000 from the mine owners, to which wil he added a. Government suhsidy. It will provide for provisional compensation and will give the Government power to confidentially medically examine miners to ascertain their liahiity. A permanent Bill will be introduced in 1912. Labour members are protesting against the Bill.
