Simmonds, t who was the Conservative and Unionist candidate for St. George's in Itilie East seat at the January elections, and who recently obtained £5000 damages from the Daily Chronicle for libel, has also obtained a verdict for £5000 against the newspaper company "Liberal Opinion, Ltd.," the ground for the action being that tho defendant issued election leaflets containing libellous matter. Mr Justice Darling said he agreed with the jury to the advisability of plaintiffs in such cases, in future, instituting criminal proceedings.
