To-mormw evening, in the Levin Borough Council Chambers, a. meeting of the Levin Branch of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society will be held. A quiet and pretty wedding took place at Dannevirke yesterday when Mr 1?. T. Williams, of Cambridge street. Levin, was married to Miss Margaret Head, the eldest daughter of Mr .1 o!)n Head, of Tennyson stieet, Dannevirke. Mr Williams is a wdl known and respected inhabitant of Levin, and is one of (lie oldest, settlors in the district. Mr 1!. T. Williams, of Weraroa, acted as best man. Those hatched earlier in tlie season have grown sufficiently for liberation, ami distribution operations have been earned on steadily fou some weeks past. Already 200,001, have been placed in various streams in the society's and neighbouring streams. On Monday 10.000 trout were sent to Waverley to be liberated in tlie lakes there. Some few years ago a consignment was put ii these lakes, and it is reported that last year some fine trout were obtained. About 10.000 fisli won the other day despatched to AYangaKui. and an order for another 000 will be executed this week. Some 10,000 will bo taken out to Otakelui in the course of the next few days for distribution in the streams in that distinct. Anglers predict an unusually good season for fisliing. and applications are now being made for licenses. Tho sea.son opens on October 1, and from all accounts there should bo some good eateho.s on that day.
Mr R. Wanden, selector of the Marlborough representative football team, entertained several members of the team last Saturday evening, and also several members of tlie Rugby Union and Mir J. J. Mr Corry suggested that the services of a coach be procured foir the next football season, in order tihat tlie loca. men might be taught the fine points of tlie game. There is considerable activity just now in the trade between the Auckland province and Sydney indraught horses. By tlio Victoria, which left Auckland on Monday evening, 30 draught and 47 light horses were shipped, and about 100 draughts were despatched yesterday. The consignment by the Victoria, is a good, oven lot, and the class ol animal being shipped shows how the brood has improved in tlio Auckland district of late years.
The Premier, as Defence Minister, has intimated that from now [Onwards rifles will be supplied to Defence Rifle Clubs on purchase on the following conditions :— Payment to he made in throe equal instalments .tlio first on application, and the remainder' in two annual payments thereafter. The Wellington Suburbs Defenco Club can therefore obtain, the rifles required by application to the Defcnoi Stores, Buckle street, at any time.
