VIEWS OF THE MAYOR
Tn the course of an interview with a Chronicle reporter, Mr Gardener expressed his great satisfaction at the enthusiastic way in which tlie members of the committee went to work 011 Friday. He felt perfectly satisfied that witli such a strong committee and also with the sincerity which had been imparted into the work that some good results, at any rate, would be the outcome of the public meeting held on Tuesday, he thought that the only way in which matters of tins kilid could ibe brought to a successful issue was by receiving the hearty co-operation' and interest of the residents. He diid not anticipate that the whole of the subjects would be brought to a •successful issue, but at tlie same time lie felt perfectly satisfied that at the very least half of them would be attended with very beneficial results to Levin and neighbourhood.. | Everyone seemed thoroughly in earnest. The sub-committees would, receive tliet very best opinions 011 the various subjects from the highest quarters, so that the different proposals might be pushed along. He wished to publicly acknowledge the enthusiastic manner in which the committee was assisting him, and it was most gratifying to find that persons were so ready to assist in the development of the district. He felt sure the public would look forward eagerly to tho reports _of the sub-committees, which might be obtainable at the end of the month.
