RACING AT LEVIN.

TIOROWTIEXFA CLFR'S SPRING MUKTIXG.

WET WEATHER AXD GOOD

FIELDS

SIR FRISCO'S CIT

One comfort amongst many drawbacks was apparent at the opening day's racing in connection with the llorowhenua Club's Spring Meeting, held at Levin yesterday. That bright spot was the' comparatively fine weather that prevailed during the running of the llorowhenua Cup, which was the principal event of the meeting. All eleven acceptors for tin's event wore saddled up. and the public was rewarded with the spectacle* of a well contested race. By many people it was asserted that Si'i "won in a walk," but this was an exaggerated statement of the truth. He was a prime favourite who won rather easily, but it should be borne in mind that lie got well away and was kept bowling along in the lead while the ruck horses, bunched, were slipping about in the mud and interfering with one another. Probably none of tliem got a worse run than Bismark. He was last horse of the eleven when three furlongs had been traversed, and when there was less than half a mile left to win in he was back in ninth position. He came awav splendidly down the long straisjht, and 'had run up to within two'lengths of Sir Frisco at the judge's bow Another horse that ran pluckily and well was Rourras(|iie, who finished third. Fourth place went to Iranui, a game little mare who seems to be running into good form once more. After the cup contest was over the lain fell persistency, and the last two events were run off under most uiicoinfojrtable conditions. Considering what the disabilities wore, tho club has reason to feel satisfied with the good results of its opening day's racing. The publiV mustered in fair numbers, and al-

though the totalisator takings were not so n,s largo, as had boon 'hopef. for they were really good in proportion to the number of people on the course. Amongst llio visitors to the course were Messrs Glover and Lawiie. MVP's.
