Dairy Notes.
TH IS ISE,ST COWS'. Speaking generally, the Jersey breed of milker is the most favoured b'lieed of milker in the 'Stanway district, remarks the Feilding Star. The Ayrshire is the popular cross, the combination giving a good quantity of milk, with a high test. Jer-sey-Shorthorn cross cattle a.ne by no means uncommon, tho dairy farmer who also raises beef preferring this cross. ATi- P. Green is amongst the dairymen of the Stan way district who are installing milking machines. Mr T. P. James and Mr J. James are also putting in the machines. Owing to the high prices obtained. for calves, most of the Sta n way and Haloombe dairymen intend keeping their calves during the coming spring.
"It's my opinion," said an Aorangi dairyman to our representative that if you get a Jersey-Ayrshire cross cow, with good, milkers on bolth sides, you have the perfect cow. ■on can't beat the little Jersey for giving the best return, while beinoeasy on the land. I don't believe in ftibese Holsteins (continued the farmer). Tam afraid , seeing the Hoistein is such a large beast, she would be severe on the feed,'and would not show any better return than tihe Jersey."
