HEATING THE WIND
To tho Editor
Sir,—! cannot understand why the. people of this coast will not realise the danger of encouraging the Chinamen in our midst; already over 12U0 are at Otaki and are daily increasing. Thov are also on the inciie.aso in Levin, and it lie latest miove is to set one up at Weraroa. I cannot understand why the people arc so foolish and nearsighted 'as to support those people in preference .to their own ldtli and kin. The only way J see to bring to the people's minds the enormity of dealing witlh the Chow is the fallowing That is to set ii]) a committee to watch those who deal with them, enter their names in a book kept for Who purpose, and whatever trade or calling these people may be following, to engage a Chinaman to fill their places. This will at once bring home to them the evils of supporting tihe Chinaman in the callings of others. In conclusion 1 would strongly urge the people of Woraroa to keep it clear of the Asiatic peril, or the time will come when they will rue the day. The surest way to block them is at: tho start, by refusing do deal with them. Trusting those few remarks will make the people think seriously in the matter.—T am, etc., FORETHOUGHT. Tho following subjects are suggested to readers of The Chronicle as matters upon which letters 'to the editor would be opportune:--Progress and Settlement in the district. 15dnc.atio.nal Topics. Progress of Public Works, Now Buildings, etc. Agricultural Operations. Horticultural and Florioultural. Suggestions as to what Industries might profitably bo undertaken in the district. Accidents and Offences. State of Roads, Bridges, etc. Public "Wants and. Grievances.
