WELLINGTON, This Day. The annual Trotting Club's Conference opened hero to-day, Mr J. R:>we presiding. In his. address, the president referred to the operations of the Race Meetings Act to regulate meetings of non-totalisator clubs, which had had the effect of clearing the world of sport in New Zealand of the undesirable proprietary atmosphere. The work done l/.v the Association had not been without good results. As each year went by there was grealter absence of protests or appeals againwt decisions of clubs, whilst good control and regulation of sport was almost a ! f that could 'be desired. Regarding 'the question of appointing stipendiary stewards the president said the more one sa.w of conntry meetings the more apparent did need of the paid stewards become. Since $he licensine of bookmakers the state of affairs Kid not improved, and it was in the direction the appointment of stipendiary stewards would be most beneficial.
