MANAWATU HUNT.

THE WATKANAE MEET. (By "Follower.") There was again a largo crowd of speotatons to witness the meet at Wa-ikanae on Momday afternoon. The run took place over practically the same course as tho last, with tho addition of a 'few extra fences. Among the followers wore three visitors who had brought their horses all the way from Palmeirston. Tliey expressed pleasure alb the very enthusiastic manner in which the sport is being taken up in this district, and spoke highly of the splendid way in Avliich the local horses jumped— considering the majority of them are only novices at the game. The ithrow-off took place on the Boacli road, and the first run. led in a zig-zag direction over some twenty fences, ending wMi a double at the back of the saleyards. The second run .started near tho main road and included a big variety of obstacles — three brusli-and-wattor jumps, three piles of logs, iheneoops, hurdles and double brushes. The erection of the jumps was in the hands of -Messrs Tom Pa rata and Jas. Edwin, who spared no pains or trouble in providing an interesting course. One or two huntsmen got "tipped out," hut all the spills were more humorous than serious. Shannon, (master) thanked all those who had helped to make the day's sport so successful amid enjoyable, and ventured tho opinion that if all the members kept on as they had begun and c'onduetedi the sport as it should he conducted, lie saw mo reason why the Manaiwait'u Hunt should not, in a fow years, be the premier limit in New Zealand. Mr H. D. Buchanan moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Hira Parata, over whose property the hunt had taken place. .Mr Pa rata responded in Maori, interpreted 'bv (Mi- Tom Pa rat a, and stated that it gave him great pleasure to do all in .litis power to forward the sport of hunting, and that he would be very "leased to see aonither hunt in Waiikamae this season.
