After several exchanges, Johnson, in the fifth round, cut Jeffries lip, and in the next round Johnson landed frequently, drawing blood from his opponent's nose, and closing his right eye. This round went all in Johnson's favour. In the next two rounds Joiwisom repeatedly "ifoimd" Jeffries' sore face and eye, 'and by the time tho ninth round was contested the -whito man was Weeding freely. This round also went in Johnson's favour.

The tenth round was mostly passed in clinching and wrestling, and in tho next round Jeffries, after getting in one hard blow on his antagonist, was fighting wildly. Tn this and the next round Jtthns'on had nil the best of the exchanges. He repeatedly struck Jeffries on the mouth, causing him to bleed freely.
