Barry's Boast.
WHY I SHOULD WIN
"Do you think yon aro going to «'in ?" asked a. representative of Totinpja's Weekly, of Harry, tlie English sculler. "Now there is a funny question to ask a, man who is going (to contest for the World's Championship. But I hnvo that question put to me a dozen or more times .a day. It would the a funny sort of man who would think. otherwise. I will now try and lie 11 you my reasons for thinking I shall return a winner from Zambesi. When I waa matched with Towns (tho first match <wf my eareor) I was a complete novice at best boat racing but nevertheless oame out a winner against the man who had won the World's Championship four times and had only retired six months before wo raced for the English , Championship. In that race I beat the record by no less than 32 seconds and easily," at >thalfc, after .being behind record for Wi'o half distance. Thflifc performance was dono only on a six week's preparation. Now I have a six .months' training before mo, under the 'eye of perhiaps the two cleverest of advisers, iMr H. T. BlackstafFe and Mr Tom Sullivan. Allowing for the improvement I shall make and niv great per.formanc'o in my matcib wilfch George Towns, , coupled with my ambition to he the world's champion, I think I shall just ahomt .beat the big iand clever New. Zealander, Dick Annst." [Sullivan has since been "giv'on the go-bye."]
