CORRESPONDENCE.

[Our correspondents' opinions nre their own; the responsibility of editorial ones makes sufficient ballast for tho editor's -shoulders.]

I/BVIN TAIi

To the Editor. Sir, —Tu your paper of May oth you speak as if tho asphalting of Oxlord street was being done wit'll tar from the Levin gas works. This is not the ease. The tar from the Levin gas works was tried on a portion of the streets, and. found to be such a. ghastly failure that the tar for the present work on Oxford street had to he procured in Palmerston .at the increased cost to tho bcrr.ugh that you mention. This byproduct ol the. gjis works'has so far been of practically no value to the borough for the. purpose you mention in your leading article.—T am, etc., H. D. MACKENZIE.
