GALE AT WELLINGTON.
DAMAGE IX THE CITY. VKSSKT., DRIKT.S ASHORE. [PKK PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, April 14. A north-east gale is blowing here. Fences have been blown down in various parts of the city and suburbs. Tlie roof of the Post Office motor garage was lifted off and carried against the wall of ,t'he Hotel Arcadia, breaking the electric light wires. The high wind damaged the elevated crane m connection with the extension of the General Post Office. The Union Steamship Company's steamer Haupiri, which has been used as a store ship for some time past, broke away from her mooring off Kaiwarra and drifted into Evans' May, where she went ashore near the old torpedo station. It is un-derstood-that she has not sustained much damage.
