It any reports as to the present whereabouts of Powelka are sent to the police they will be investigated at once, and if necessary recourse will be had to firearms, but it must be bv the police only. In such an event or should you do so, please accept my thanks." THE MAYOR'S REPLY. The Mayor of Palmerston replied this evening to tho Hon. Dr. 1< ind--I'iv's message ;—" Thanks for voui wire T have been in constant touch with the nolice for some days. We fire finite of the opinion that it is inadvisable to call for furthei volunteer assistance. The number has been considerably limited to "elected men. Tf necessary I will take further action."
