. EVENTS IN SHANNON. (Chronicled by our Local Representative.) It lias been definitely decided to postpone the road race to April 13. Entries close in the week preceding with the .secretary, Mr Muir, at Weraroa; Mr J. Phillips, at Levin, and Mr M. Moynihan, at Shannon. A MINISTER'S TRAVELS: o,n Tuesday night, at the Presbyterian Church, the managers presented the Rev. J. A. McKenzie with a. handsome dressing jacket. Mr MePherson, who made the presentation, alluded to the hard way in which Mr McKenzie had work-'d for the church during his stay in Shannon. Ho remarked upon lur.v much he would be missed, the gap that lie would leave here, and' wished him, on behalf of the chure ; i, a good voyage and every success in nil his undertakings. Mr Melve'i/ue suitably replied. A pleasant evening was spent. The members of the Ladies' Guild provided refinements. The Rev. Mr McKeiifie leaves here next week for America. He intends travelling through both Canada and the States, and while in the States he will attend th» Sunday School Convention, at Washington, as the New Zealand delegate. He will visit England (where he intends studying the social condition), and Europe, and will return to New Zealand, via Suez, visiting Australia on the return trip. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr Gibb, son of Dr. Gibb, of St. John's Church. "Wellington, will succeed the llev. Mr McKenzie here as missioner. Mrs Gunning returned on Wednesday from Napier, after an enjoyable three weeks' holiday in the district that Poet John Barr describes as "the land of the honey of tiio sun." BOWLTXG NEWS. The match for the "Dixon Cup," between. Sha.nnon «tihl Palmerston Rowling Clubs, played at Palmerston, resulted in the defeat of Shannon by l(i points.
