The Town Clerk notified that seven extra men had been put on to the water supply works since the last meeting, and that there were now over 100 Infuse connections. SCHOOL WAT ICR SUPPLY. A letter was read from the Secretary of the Education Department, saying that he was informed by the manager of the Boys' Training Farm that the Levin Borough Council was prepared to supply water to the farm from the borough system at the rate of £o0 a year as a fixed sum, and Gd a 1000 gallons when the consumption for the year is over 2,000,000 gallons, the arrangement to extend over a period of fifteen years from the commencement of the supply. He would be glad to hear if the Council would let him have confirmation of this offer. He also understood that the Council was prepared to lay a 4in service to the farm from the borough boundary. That being so, would the Council be good enough to let him have a pla,n. and specification of the proposed work and tender for carrying it out. It would be a condition that the service would be for the exclusive use of the institution ; that was to say that no other connection would be permitted. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Lancaster, it was decided to refer to the Works Committee the question of'getting the cost of a Gin and 4in main. - RAILWAY APPLICATION. On the motion of Cr. Palmer, seconded by Cr. Lancaster, it was decided to refer to the Water Works Committee the Railway Department's application for water for the stationniaster's house and other buildings. FIRE BRIGADE APPLICATION. A letter was read from the secretary of the Levin Fire Brigade, to the effect that the resolution of the Council of February 7th had been carried out, re a reel and bose for the southern end of the borough. The reel would be ready very soon, and as these appliances must be under cover it was decided at a Committee meeting to recommend that a shed be built on the site chosen by the Committee. The cost of the building would he about £30. ft was also recommended that a towel - and bell be elected at a cost of £45. The Town Clerk said that if these large sums were going to be voted sonie extra provision must be made. Cr. Palmer: By how much have we exceeded the vote this year? The Mayor: I cannot tell you, but considerably. If the Council, he added, decided to vote for this, they must add the cost to the next year's rate.

Cr. Mackenzie said that if later on it was found necessary to have a bell tower the Council must consider the matter then. Cr. Hudson failed to see the necessity of the tower and bell. He did not, however, oppose the application for the shed. The Mayor said that they desired to do all they could for the Fire Brigade, but if they carried out'the wishes of the Brigade in this instance it would mean a special rate of a farthing, and the total expenditure would be £210 at the least. At the instance of Cr. Mackenzie, seconded by Cr. Cameron, the following motion was adopted That a shed only suitable to house the reel and hose be erected at Weraroa, a,nd that the question of the bell and tower be held over for the present.
