.MLS HAL* AT Oil At" RIVER. A providential escape from very serious injury hefel Mr J. Milton yesterday afternoon. The hole was sixteen feet deep, eighteen feet long and four feet wide, and the imminent risk was a slip of gravel and rocks. Milton dashed to a ladder, hut as he got (ill it a large rock struck him and the ladder, and made his petition precarious. Fortunately lie was able to jump from the ladder and clasp an overhead heani. Eventually he got out of the hole, and on examination it was found that he had escaped with a severe shaking and a somewhat severe laceration of one of his legs.
