Second Edition. A WORKMAN'S ESCAPE.
.MLS HAL* AT Oil At" RIVER. A providential escape from very serious injury hefel Mr J. Milton yesterday afternoon. He was at work at the Ohau river, about throe miles from Levin, in a cavity intended for use as a cemented anchor hole in connection with the pipe bridge for the bevin water supply scheme, when he intuitively -knew that something was going wrong. The hole was sixteen feet deep, eighteen feet long and four feet wide, and the imminent risk was a slip of gravel and rocks. Milton dashed to a ladder, hut as he got (ill it a large rock struck him and the ladder, and made his petition precarious. Fortunately lie was able to jump from the ladder and clasp an overhead heani. Eventually he got out of the hole, and on examination it was found that he had escaped with a severe shaking and a somewhat severe laceration of one of his legs.
