This morning tin l brass trombone Mini K-flat tenor horn solos woro decided. Five competed in the former, which was won by L. Holdaway (Blenheim), 113 points: H. .Minitiiighani ("Wanganui), 112, second : G. Boyd, (Wanganui), third, 110. C. Hansen (Nelson) won the tenor lion.' solo with 110 points; Bowe.s (Wanganui Garrison), s-c "id. 11l ; T. Williams (Gisborne). 119. third. Thei'o were thirteen competitors. The. judge remarked, in giving his decision on this event, that, as in most of the pieces played during the contest, the chief fault was in conception. CKTCKET. The Australian cricketers .arrived from l'almer.ston North this morn, ing and were met at the station by a goodly number, and driven to the Council Chambers, whore they were formally welcomed by senior Councillor Liffitou (in the unavoidable absence of the Mayor), and Mr .las. Watt, president of the local Cricket Association. Play starts at two o'clock, on Cook's Gardens, where a 200(1 pitch has been prepared, but the out-field is very rough.
