SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT IN THE TIMES IN AUCKLAND.
A very noticeable indication of marked improvement in the times showing that money is becoming more plentiful among the working classes and others inay be observed by anyone attending the various auction sales held in this city. . On Monday last, at Mr. S. Cochrane’s, and on Thursday, at Mr. Sibbin’sauction rooms furniture and household goods realised full fifty per cent, over late prices the bidding has been spirited and brisk, arid the attendance numerous, aud prices are steadily on the advance. The same was the case at the sale of Mr. R. Graham’s furniture, and again, yesterday, at the sale of furniture held by Mr Sibbin in Hobson-street, goods in the latter instance havmg realised nearly double that which they would have fetched a month ago. Another significant sign of .the times is tbe number of marriages which are daily taking place. The Thames has doubtless much, if not all, to do with this change. The tide ’ has turned, and not only is money more plentiful among the working classes, and easier in commercial circles, but there is a daily and increasing confidence felt in the assurance that Auckland has seen the worst of her bad times, ,• and is steadily aud surely emerging from them.—New Zealand Herald, May 9.
