The following is from the Wellington Independent, 7th March:—

SITTINGS OS THE SUBREME COURT.

The Supreme Court criminal sittings were held on the 2nd and 3rd of March, but the only cases of interest, those of Browne, Morton, and Rogers, charged with perjury, were postponed till the 11th inst., when they will be tried by a special jury. The Wanganui cases are,also postponed, and, contrary to anticipation, will be tried in Wellington. The civil sittings commenced on Thursday with the case of Kennard Brothers v the Provincial Government, which is now being tried before a special jury. This action is brought by Messrs Kennard Brothers, .the contractors for the erection of the Queen’s Wharf Extension, to recover the sum of .=£7,949 2s, being the balance of the contract price of the wharf. A second action arising out of the first, is raised to recover the sum of ,£20,000, as damages for alleged misrepresentation of the nature of the wharf foundations. Mr Travers, instructed by Messrs Hart and Buckley, appear for the contractors, and the Attorney-Ge-neral, with Mr Borlase and Mr Brandon, for the Provincial Government. The case will last for several days, and the decision will not be known by the presentmail.
