FIRE IN THE SHAKESPEARE
ROAD. On the evening of Thursday last, shortly before eight o’clock, an out building connected with the kitchen adjoining the premises occupied by M. Fitzgerald, Esq., iu the Shakespeare Road, was discovered to be on fire. It appears that Mr Fitzgerald was from home at the time, and only Mrs F., the children, a servant, and a laundress on the premises. The lire was happily discovered in time to check its progress ere it had so far obtained the mastery as to involve the destruction of the residence and contiguous premises which were at first in considerable danger, but, being early in the evening, and plenty ot able and willing assistance at hand combined with abundance of water, the damage was confined to the destruction of the shed, where it seems to have originated, and part of the kitchen. This is the second narrow escape from destructive fires that we have had in Napier witbiu the last few days, and adds one more warning note to us to be prepared for the occurrence of such disasters. We believe there is no reason to suppose that the origin of this fire to be other than pure accident.
