LOCATION OF TROOPS IN AUCKLAND.
The only military item worth chronicling is an order, we understand, to locate 50U of the 18th Royal Irish at Auckland. The Imperial Government insist upon the regiment left in the colony being located at one place, where there is barack accomodation. This only exists at Auckland. If the regiment is posted in the interior, the colony must prov.'de the huts and transport, which it is not able, and, judging by our latest news from Wellington, is not willing, to do. The Northern members held a meeting recently in the Wellington Club, and appointed a deputation to wait upon the Government and press upon them tbe necessity of locating a regiment at Taupo. The Goververnment declined to take any step in the matter, and the project has fallen through. We may add that the King natives say they will regard the location of a regiment at Taupo as absolving them from their promise not to attack Waikato.
