Resident Magistrate's Corin’.—Tbe business before the lie.-irlent Magistrate’s Court during the past week lias not been heavy, the principal having consisted of a horse-dealing case, and a claim for expenses and delay in driving cuttle, owing to ilie Hooded state cf the country. One* or two debt cases, and some of the most usual of all —drunkenness. A brief outline of particulars will bo found elsewhere.
Damages.—At theKesident Magistrate’s Coir, t on Tuesday the following case was heard : —Barry v. Marshall, a claim for £SO value of two horses plaintiff Lad given in exchange for ore of defendant's, which plaintiff had returned ns being unsound Defendant proved that the horse was sound at the time of the exchange. Judgment for defendent. -with costs.
Cattle-driving Exi’ENSes. —Roper v. Tanner. —The plaintiff claimed £l9 10s for expenses and delay, caused by the Hooded state of the country, in driving a mob of cattle from Waipawa to Meanee. Being under nvi engagement to perform tho work for £5, he was prevented by the floods from fulfilling his contract, and sought compensation i'Sv the delay, which defendant refused, holding him as bound by (he agreement. —Case dismissed.
.Debt. —Oliver v. Casey.—A claim for vroik done and a mare sold lo defendant. —J udgmenl by default for amount claimed (£3U) aud costs. Drunkenness —On Tuesday A. Tewkesbury was fined ss. 3 on Thursday, Wiremu Ngpmaiaia, a native, was lined ss. j and on -Friday John McOonac io, for being drunk aud riotous.was fined 10s, aud costs 45.-- ....
