POLICE MISFORTUNES
Hastings Section Depleted A RUN OF ILL-LUCK The Hastings police have had a considerable amount of misfortune in the way of sickness and misfortune lately. Yesterday afternoon Constable Sutherland, -who was assaulted by some Maoris a few months ago, went into Napier to undergo a medical inspection for the purpose of finding whether he was fit again for full duties. Two hours after Constable Sutherland’s return. Constable Goodson, while putting a man into the cells, slipped and dislocated his knee. The man had been arrested and brought to the station, where he violently resisted. Constable Goodson will be confined to his bed for several days. Further to that misfortune Constable Bowick, who had gone on a trip to Auckland, was taken ill while he was there, and had to undergo an operation. Instead of returning this week, it will not now be possible for him to resume duty till June 17.
It will be remembered that a considerable time ago Constable Craigie was assaulted and very seriously injured.
