IRISH DISTRESS
DAMAGE FROM DROUGHT WATER FAMINE IN DUBLIN. GRAVE AGRICULTURAL DIFFICULTIES. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received 7, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 6. The drought is causing anxiety in Ireland. The river Shannon is closed for navigation above Athlone. Dublin is faced with a water famine and parts of the city are rationed in expectation of continuance of the longest dry spell since 1887. Lakes and rivers in Ireland are at their lowest levels in living memory and reservoirs are more than half empty. The gathering of the harvest is suspended in many districts in order to water the cattle.
