BEST SALE FOR MONTHS. ALL CLASSES ADVANCE. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 6. ! Auctions in all the principal sections at the Addington market to-day were the best for a long period, with excellent, clearances. Ewe mutton valueappreciated, fat cattle improved by £1 a head, and sales for both store sheep and fat pigs were very keen. Store sheep: A moderate entry with a keen demand, and prices very firm at late rates. Hoggets were especially sought at the best prices of the season Values were: Good s.m. ewes, to 17/1; ordinary, 13/6 to 14,10; sound and falling mouth, 10/- to 13/-; aged and inferior, 4/- to 7/-; good 6 and 8-th crossbred, to 19,6; medium 2-th haltbred, 17/3 to 18/6; ewes and lambs (ail counted), 7/3 to 9/7; ordinary 2-th halfbred wethers, 13/3 to 14,5. Extra good Corriedale ewe hoggets, to 23/-; good E. Leicesters, to 19/-; medium Romney, to 17/4; good wethers, 115 to 15/9; ordinary, 10/- to 12/10; inferior, to 9/8 Spring lambs: An entry of 59 head, with the top price 31/10. A very keen sale resulted, the price per lb. being lid to 12d. Fat sheep: An entry of 3900 head met a very spirited demand. Ewe mutton was a little dearer, and all other classes sold at late rates. Values: Extra prime heavy wethers, to 35 I; i prime, 28,6 to 31/-; medium weight, 25/6 to 28/-; ordinary, 22/- to 25/-; light. 18/- to 21/6; prime heavy ewes, 25/6 to 28/-; medium weight, 22/6 to 25/-; ordinary, 19/- to 22/-; light, 14/6 to 18/6. Fat cattle: An entry of 341 head, which included cattle from the North Island, Otago and Southland, met a keen market, with a general advance ot j £1 a head. Best beef made from 25/- | to 28/-; good, 21/- to 24/-; heavyweight, 18/- to 22/-; good heifer, to ■ 22/-; medium quality, from 14/- to 17/-; rough, to 13/-. WESTFIELD SALE. IAnfItOVED TONE IN MARKET. ‘ AUCKLAND, Sept. 6. I Beet' was in better demand at the Westfield sale, and although prices were on a par with last week, there was an improved tone in the market. The yarding of 450 head was slightly larger than last week and included some first quality beef. Extra choice ox sold to 18s a 1001 b; choice and prime, 14s to 17s; secondary and plain, 12s to 13s; prime young cow and heifer beef, 14s to 17s; ordinary cow, 10s to 13s. Extra heavy prime steers made £8 to £8 7s 6d; heavy prime, £7 to £7 15s; lighter prime, £6 5s to £ 6 17s 6d; light prime, £l 17s 6d to £5 15s; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £5 5s to £5 17s 6d; heavy prime, £4 7s 6d to £5; lighter prime, £3 10s to £4; other killable cows, £1 15s to £2 15s. Large numbers of sheep were penned •nd the offering met with a ready disposal at firm rates. Prime wethers, 19s 6d to 30s; unfinished, 16s to 19s fid; prime maiden ewes, 19s to 24s 6d; prime ewes, 15s to 23s 6d; unfinished, 7s to 14s 6d. Values for hoggets rose by about 2s a head owing to the short | yarding. Prime hoggets made 14s to I 255; unfinished, 9s to 13s. Spring lambs were offered in large numbers and met With a brisk sale, making up to 29s fid. Values in the calf market were a •hade higher. Runners, 40s to 975; vealers, 25s to 725. Fat pigs sold at late rates. Baconers, 37s to 635; porkers, 20s to 38s. Store pigs were firmer, large stores selling from 19s to 245.
