AN ORIGINAL TEA FOR A BRIDE-TO-BE

A large cool room with beautiful delphiniums spraying from howls on tables and mantlepieces was very welcoming to the guests who were invited on Monday last by the Missps Woodward, in Duke street, to a most entertaining party in honour of Miss Kay Fannin. East guest was asked to bring the best article possible, the cost not to be more than 1/-. ft was wonderful what charming presents were achieved for this small sum! Mrs John Hill was voted first prize for her original gardening apron. _ This was made of sugar-sacking with a futuristic design of a scarlet flower pot and branching leaves and flowers, finely appliqued. There were also other pretty aprons, a green luncheon set, little cruets, and many other cleverly thought-out gifts. A competition caused much interest, this being won by Mrs J. Hill and Mrs Hursthouse, the latter being given the prize after a draw. Mrs Woodward was wearing a charming dress of royal blue and white patterned Liberty silk, with soft ninon fichu collars, her daughter, Miss Phyllis Woodward, was frocked in French grey hand-embroidered crepe-de-chine, and Miss Betty Woodward was in powder blue Shantung, with flesh-tinted collar and cuffs of scalloped georgette. Sweets, and a delicious afternoon tea were much enjoyed after the competition was over. Among those present were:—Mrs J. Couper, Mrs Romaine Wright, Mrs H. Glazebrook, Mrs Stewart, Mrs D. Duncan, Mrs Waterworth, Mrs Landels, Mrs Rex Mason. Mrs Mason. Mrs J. Hill, Miss M. Pinckney. Miss N. Pinckney, Miss J. Cameron. Miss M White. Miss O von Dadelszen Miss Joan Landels, Miss M. Brodie, Miss M Douglas. Miss M Curlett Misses 0., R. and J. Symes. Miss Joyce Beamish, Miss E Beamish. Misses M and B. Glazebrook, Miss R. Swan, Miss S. Murray Miss S. McLeod, Miss McGregor, Miss S. Fowler. Miss L. Candy. Miss Myra Lindsay, and others.
