ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

A boy, Frederick Holesman, aged 11. whoso parents reside at Glenbrook, Franklin County, was killed through being knocked down by a motor cur on the way home from school. Thu children were dispersing after school, when the accident occurred. The boy was taken to the Franklin Hospital, but died on arrival.
Helen Caines, aged 17, was found dead close to her parents' homestead at Upukongaro live miles up the Wanganui river. She went out shooting with a pea rifle and the body was found by a fence, indicating that the weapon caught in the wire and was discharged.
While attending to a metal crushing machine at Hilderthorpe Pit, an employee named Len Cayford’, married, of Oamaru, was struck by a belt fastener on the main driving belt and suffered a severe cut on the back of the scalp. He was picked up unconscious and sent to hospital at Oamaru. His injuries proved not of a serious nature, and ho is progressing satisfactorily.
An inquest was opened yesterday in Christchurch on the death of John Dunnctt, of Temuka, who was found outside the front door of the residence of Mrs Manson, of Peterborough street, on Wednesday evening. According to the evidence, deceased was a single man. a returned soldier, and had lived on his mother’s farm near Temuka. Ho left the farm on Saturday for Timaru. His health uad not been good since the war owing to the effects of gas. He had appeared miserable and depressed of late and he had left a note to bis brother which was written on a piece of paper with poison labels pasted on the back. Ena Robertson, waitress, stated that until recently she bad been engaged to the deceased. They had had no quarrel and had been together earlier on Wednesday evening. Dunuett had taken her to Mrs Mason’s, where she lived, and gave no Indication of not being normal. Later she opened the front door in answer to a knock and found deceased lying on the lawn. His heart was beating but he was unconscious. Medical evidence was to the effect that there were no signs of bodily injury or that death was caused by poisqning. The inquest was ad journed.
