DANZIG PROBLEM

JURISTS’ REPORT BEFORE LEAGUE COUNCIL. RAPPORTEUR APPOINTED. [British Official Wireless.] (Received 10, 11.30 a.m.) Rugby, Dec. 9. The report by the two jurists, Sir Cecil Hurst (Britain) and Signoi Pilotti (Itago), to whom the problem arising out of the administration of Danzig had been referred, was before the League of National Council at Geneva yesterday The Polish representatives wished to appeal from their decision to the Court ot International Justice, but Sir Austen Chamberlain urged tha; the award of the jurists should lie respected, pointing out that Other wise jurists of repute , would be disinclined to give opinions. The Polish delegate bad indicated that the difficulties inherent in the award were of a practical nature and sir Austen Chamberlain therefore submitted that they were unsuitable tor decision by a judicial body. The Polish delegates thereupon suggested that pending examination on the spot of the practical difficulties fhe jurists’ award should be held up. It was finally decided to appoint a rapporteur to draft a formula authorising local settlement on the basis of the jurists’ award. Consideration of the Polish-Lithua-nian dispute is being resumed before the Council to-day, when it is ex petted that Marshall Pilsudski will represent Poland.
