FROM DE MAUPASSANT’S WORKS CHARGES AGAINST D’ANNUNZIO (Received 10, 8.30 a.m.) Paris, Dec. 0 M. Lucien Duplessy, writing in a famous French literary review, accuses Signor Gabriele’d’Annunzio of wholesale theft from the early worka of Guy de Maupassant. He instances cases in which there is exact similarity. He says d’Annunzio’s “La Siesta” is an exact counterpart of de Maupassant’s “Abandoned”; he says the same of “11l Martirio” and “At Sea,” also “A Piece of String” and d’Annunzio’s “Death of Candia " M. Duplessy says the latter is the best example of d’Annunzio’s imitation. The plot is identical throughout and d’Annunzio adds nothing.— (A. and N.Z.)
