The Governor-General. who is now convalescent, will leave Wellington with Her Excellency on Tuesday evening next, the 13th inst., for a short stay at Pelorus Sound. .Their Excellencies will return to Wellington immediately before Christinas. The girden party for which invitations were issued by Their Excellencies fur November 22. but which had to be postponed on account of the Governor General’s illness, will now be Geld” at Government House. Wellington, on Tuesday, January 10. Their Excellencies therefore ask that recipients of cards of invitation for the former date will kindly regard them as holding good for January 10.
Drs. W. H Renner and J. Fitzsimmons, of Otago, have attained the F.K.UB. degree.
Mrs A. L Waterhouse, of Taradale, left for Wellington by the mail train this morning, en route for Melbourne, on a visit to her parents.
The death occurred in Wanganui yesterday of Captain K. Stewart for many years engaged in the Wanganui river tourist service, aged 60.
Mrs A. Gregory left Hastings this morning for Pahiatua. where she joins her husband. Mr. Arthur Gregory, who has taken up his residence there.
Miss Margaret Hargrove, who it attached to the Church Missionary Society's work in China as a nursing sister, and who is at present on fur lough, left Hastings by rail this morning for her home in Christchuren after a month’s visit to this district.
The many friends of Mr. George Stephenson will learn with pleasure that he has recovered from the effects of an accident sustained by him some months ago. and that he is now able to be about once more, having joined the staff of the Tourist Motor Company in Hastings.
Sergeant-Major Vincent who spoke on behalf of the old soldiers in the Parke Island Home at the Rotary luncheon in Hastings yesterday afternoon. was a member of the old Australian Imperial forces, w’ho volunteered for service in the Soudan in 1885.
Among death notices appearing in the London “Times” is one referring to Mrs Grace Harington, aged 88. widow of the late Lieut.-Colonel Philip Harington. an Imperial Army officer who saw service in the later Maori wars, was subsequently in command in the Auckland Volunteer Dis. trict. and later took up farming at Tauranga.
