THE PEAK

QUESTION OF ROAD FORMATION. IS IT SUFFICIENT FOR NEEDS? COUNCILLORS’ OPINIONS DIFFER. There was a slight difference of opinion as to whether the road leading to the Peak at Havelock North is altogether satisfactory at the meeting of the Hastings Borough Council last evening. The matter was raised by Cr. R. Baker who proposed that the Council urge the Couuvy Council, or the body responsible, to finish off the formation of the road leading to this point. He was of the opinion that the road was but half finished. Cr. E. V. Simpson considered it a matter for the Council’s representative on the Board to attend to.

ft was explained by Cr. A. 1. Rainbow that the Te Mata Board had no funds at present. “The road is in quite good condition," he said, “and takes you to a place where you can obtain a magnificent view. Incidentally it is quite easy to turn round at the point where" the formation is completed.” Cr. Baker; The normal person finds it very hard Ui climb the rest of the journey. Cr. Rainbow: I don’t agree with that. Any man or woman could easily do the rest of the journey. It was finally decided that the Council’s representatives on the Board urge that everything possible be done in the matter. ■
