NOXIOUS WEEDS

COUNTY COUNCIL ACTION.

COMMITTEE SET UP.

At the meeting of the Hawke'* Bay Executive of the Farmers’ Union held in Hastings yesterday afternoon Mr Talbot stated that he had noticed on the road between Bridge Pah «nd Maraekakaho the appearance of a thistle new to that district, which h« believed to be the ''Star Thistle.” The seeds had evidently been earnod there by travelling stock. He considered the County Council should take steps to have the plants grubbed out before they could spread. It would not be a very big undertaking fur the roadmen.

Mr Erickson informed the meeting that the County Council had appointed a committee to go into the question of noxious weeds.

Mr Talbot was requested to obtain specimens of the thistle in question, and to forward them to the County CouncH, and to Dr. Freeman, of Iho Government Agricultural Department, for examination.

Th n president (Mr J. H. Joll) also drew attention to the fact that Bathurst burr is spreading steadily throughout the district, and h« thought that this noxious weed would also receive consideration by tho County Council Committee.
