CABLE CONFERENCE

DOMINIONS BEING CONSULTED CUTTING OF RATES DEPRECATED. CO-OPERATION AND POOLING, z (Received 8, 12.45 p.m.) London, Dec. 7. The Postmaster-General is consulting the Dominions, to-morrow with reference to the date and per. sonnel of the cable conference. It is doubtful if it will be possible before Christmas. The Pacific Board explains that 45 per cent of the loss of traffic is applicable to the whole of the AngloAustralasian traffic and leaves a balance still in favour of the cables. The financial results are less unsatistory. The concensus of opinion of both the cable and the wireless companies deprecates the cutting of rates and favours co-operation and pooling.— (A. and N.Z.)
