POURING IN

WOOL FOR SECOND NAPIER SALE. A LARGE CATALOGUE. BROKERS’ OFFERINGS. The second Napier wool sale of the season will be held on Friday, when the catalogue will be by far the largest offered so far this season in the Dominion. With better weather since last sale for shearing, the wool has come into the stores in great quantities, and still continues to pour in by ship, rail, and motor lorry. So great was the quantity of wool in store that the catalogue was closed two days before the stated time. The original allocation has been exceeded by close on a thousand bales. The wool buyers, some 70 in number, arrived in Napier last night and were busy at work to-day making their valuations. Generally speaking, the quality of the lots to be offered is quite eqpal to that put up at the opening sale, in many cases being the balance, or the whole of clips which were too late for the first sale. INCREASED QUANTITY OF SUPERFINE. From a casual glance through the stores there appears to be an increased quantity of superfine and other fine grade wools which should meet with ready competition from the American operators. The fleeces are light in condition, being well grown and of nice texture and should offer a good field for the Bradford mills. There will be a large number of good offerings in pieces, bellies and skirtings, which should attract the attention of the Continental buyers. Greater opportunities will be afforded the local scourers at the sale, who had to remain silent at the first auctions as there will be offered some lots which are inclined to be dirty. In regard to the hogget wool, there is little change from that offered at the November sales, the evidence of a setback during the winter being still apparent. Several nice lines of clothing wool undoubtedly will meet the requirements of the local mills. There is still a marked absence of cotted wool which is largely due to the Hawke’s Bay flocks having generally done well. Numerous north of Gisborne clips which have been opened up, showed but little evidence of foreign matter, being beautifully clean through being rain-washed, The greater portion of the lots is expected to change hands at satisfactory prices, both to the vendor and to the broker. The offerings of the individual

SALES. (Received 6. 11.30 a.m.) Brisbane, Dec. 6. The third series of wool sales has commenced. Competition is exceptionally keen for all grades. Good scoureds in dry condition met with keen competition up to last sale rates; other grades are irregular. PRICES WELL MAINTAINED. (Received 7, 1.30 p.m.) London, Dec. 6. At the wool sales 10.293 bales were offered, of which 5380 were Australian and 4923 New Zealand wool. There was an average selection of merinos suitable for both Yorkshire and the Continent, an excellent selection of scoureds and a limited offering of greasy crossbreds, principally medium to low.
