Major-General Gustave Ramaeiotti, aged 66 years, died yesterday in Melbourne.

The funeral of Mrs. Alick Speers took place this afternoon, when the body was conveyed to the Hastings Cemetery, where the Rev. D. J. A. Shaw conducted the Presbyterian burial service at the graveside,' in the presesce of a large gathering of mourners assembled to pay tribute to the memory of the deceased. After the interment a number of beautiful flowers were laid on the grave.

The Indian Office announces that the King has approved of the appointment of Sir Goorge_ Schuster to he a member of the Executive Council of tho Governor-General of India from September next. Sir George Schuster will retain his appointment as financial and economic adviser to the Colonial Office until his departure from England for India. It is nontemplated that before then the task of the East African Commission on which Sir George is nt present serving, will be completed.
