TOP-DRESSING GRASSLANDS

TIUS SEASON’S RESULTS. DEMONSTRATIONS ON HAWKE 'B FARMS. In our advertising columns of today’s issue it will be observed that demonstrations on the results of fertilising grasslauds «» different properties iu the Hawke’s Buy province will be conducted by Dr. D. L. Freeman. of the Department of Agriculture. The day fixed fur the demonstrations is Thursday next, the Sth instant, and the demonstrations will bo held on three different properties, including the Otanc, Havelock North, and Fernhill districts. The importance of the judicious fertilisation of grasslands within the Dominion has received a considerable consideration by prominent agriculturists during recent seasons, as it is now fully realised that intimately Pound up with manuring are the totals of the different grass products, including wool, meat, and dairy produce, yielded by the grazing lands of New Zealand and available for local consumption, and exportable to overseas markets. Large areas of grazing lands are being fertilised and made more productive as a consequence. As, how-

ever, there is a considerable amount of experimentation to be accomplished in order to ascertain the most economical means of the fertilisation of special arcus of our pasture-lands, and as many farmers are not conversant with the values and uses of specific fertilisers, the demonstrations that are to be held should afford local pastoralists and farmers an opportunity to amplify their-knowledge in respect of grassland manuring. It is understood that these are the first demonstrations of their kind to bo held in this district and it is certain that fanners will attend them from widely-separated parts of the province. The first demonstration will be held on Mrs Crawley’s property in the Otnne district at 10.30 a.m. followed by two others at 1.30 p.m. and 2.45 p.in. on Mr F. C. White’s farm at Havelock North, aud Mrs Person s farm at Fernhill respectively.
