MEETING OF SCHOOL • COMMITTEE. A meeting of the School Committee was held on Friday evening. Present:—Messrs Anderson (chairman). Caskey, Hurikino, Barclay, MacErlick. and the headmaster, The headmaster, in his report, stated that the roll number was 109, but the attendance had not been good, the average for the four weeiis being only 8-1. The proficiency examination was held on 25th November, when five pupils were successful in obtaining the proficiency certificate and one in obtaining the competency. During the month Miss Blackburn and Mr Price, the physical drill instructors, had visited the school and reported verv favourably upon their phase of the school work. Tlie headmaster took the opportunity. on behalf of the staff, ot thanking the committee for the keen interest they have taken in rhe school during the past year and of extending to them good wishes for the Christinas season and the compliments of. the season. In commenting on the headmaster's report, the chairman referred in eulogistic terms to the werk carried on bv the staff of the school during the rear, and on his proposal a motion was carried thanking rhe headmaster and staff for their good work and reciprocating their "ood wishes. This was endorsed by other members of the committee and carried unanimously THE “BREAK-UP.” A discussion arose as to the form of the end-of-the-year “break-up,” and it was decided to hold a nicnic at Mt. Erin on the last school day. It is hoped to make this a big event for the district, and preliminary arangements were gone into. An invitation is to lie extended to all parents and settlers to be present and to help with the catering. It will essentially be a children’s dav. but it is hoped many adults will attend and enjoy themselves in watening the enjoyment of the children. The dux medal and the certificates gained bv the pupils will be presented at the picnic.
