LATE CABLES IN BRIEF. Story Discredited.—The Frcrch police discredit Marinescu’s story, especially in view of the fact that nobody heard the shots. “Le Matin” says that nevertheless numerous warning and threatening letters to Prince Cagol from Buearest have been handed to the police. Appointment Terminated. — The Federal Government has announced that as the Commonwealth Line will be offered for sale the appointment of Sir William Clarkson to the Commonwealth Shipping Board has terminated. Loan Council Memb e r.—The Hon. T. R. Bavin has signed an agreement whereby the New South Wales Government becomes a member of the Loan Council. Severe Hailstorm.—A hailstorm in Wingham district (Now South Wales) destroyed fruit and maize crops and killed a large number of poultry and pigs, causing extensive damage. Peace Congress.—The Australian Council of Trade Unions has received an invitation from Chinese Labour organisation to send a delegates to the Pan-Pacific Peace Conference at Hankow in January, 1928. Freights and Fares—The Victorian Railway Commissioners, in a memorandum to the Government increased freights and fare, and stated a reduction of staff made in the railways ns the deficit at the end of the financial year may amount to £1,000.000. Swine Fever.--An outbreak of swine fever is reported from Nanogin. West Australia, and other districts. Many areas arc quarantined. Japanese Mission; Baron Goto, accompanied by a suite and secretariat. left Tokio for Berlin, via Moscow. It is generally accepted that the mission seeks closer relations between Japan, Germany, and Russia. P. and O Company t The Penin, sular and Oriental Company’s credit balance is £918.001. reserve for redemption of debentures £288,422, brought forward £118,326. The report states that the Narkunda has been converted to an oil-burner, and the change has proved entirely satisfactory. The Naldern will be converted as soon as possible.
