HAWKE’S BAY BOARD. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board was held in Napier to-day. Present Messrs. J. A. Miller (chairman), H. R. Clark, W. W. Smart. W. H. Hellyer, T. Donovan, G. Purves, W. G. Jarvis, G. A. Latham and J Macdonald. The Government Orchard Inspector wrote asking the board to destroy some hawthorn growing on the right bank of the river above Clive township.—To be advised that the bushes had been removed. A request was received from two settlers asking the board to inspect the flood gate at Raupare, which it was stated required repairing.—The chairman reported that he gave instructions for certain repairs to be made, which action was endorsed. OVERSEER’S REPORT. The overseer (Mr. P. Scullin) reported as follows:— Tutaekuri Overflow; Fencing north and south banks where breaches have been repaired, minor repairs to north bank, clearing outlet of No. 2 floodgate and repairing fences and minor repairs to Donnelly’s bank. Cost for month, £37. Mr. H. Lane's contract was completed and passed on Ist inst. The bjaekberry patch which Mr. Gordon, or Hastings, has been treating with destroyer, appears, so, far, to be effective.

Omahu to Pakowhai: To repairing four groynes below Omahu. Cost, £BO. To clearing poplars and willows at Holden’s. Cost for month, £3O. To clearing willows from bed near Chesterhope. Cost for month, £2l. Fernhill to Pakowhai: To clearing and repairing fences near Knraniu. Cost for month, £2O. To raising and strengthening bank near Raupare. Cost. £4B 10/-. To removing 9 chains of old bank at Raupare. Cost for month (including labour, oil, petrol, etc., £lll. This job will be completed in about 10 days. Fernhill to Pakowhai: Raupare breach, tractor time and cost to October 31st: Total time 7’3 days; spoil shifted, 8500 cubic yards; cost, labour, petrol, oil, etc., £283 6/8. Cost per yard, Bd. Teams’ time to October 31st., 126 days, cost £189; spoil shifted. 2520 cubic’yards at 1/6. Paki Paki: Some obstructions have been removed from creek at a cost of £3. Balance of money authorised will be expended in March next. Blasting to help erosion. Hawthorn at Clive has been done near Pakowhai bridge has been attended to
