The engagement is announced of Constance Leile. daughter of Mr. L. Clark, Argyll. Waipawa, to Howard, son of the late Mr. Benjamin Gower, of Turnkino. Wanganui.
Mr. J. Henrys, racing handicapper, who has been on a world tour, returned on Sunday by the Aorangi. He was accompanied by Mrs Henrys.
Martin Nihill and Richard McDonnell, both of the Hastings Convent. gamed proficiency certificates in the teeent examinations. These names were not included its tha lists published yesterday.
Bishop W. R. Mounsev arrived at Auckland by the Aorangi on Sunday, on his way to Australia He is staying with Archbishop Averill for a few days. He was formerly Bishop of Labuan and Sarawak and is now connected with the Community of tha Resurrection
Miss Goodie Reeve, a daughter of Miss Ada Reeve, of musical-comedy lame, arrived in Auckland by the Aorangi on Sunday. Miss Reeve, who is engaged in Press work in Sydney, has been holiday-making in Xxru Angeles. An interview appears on another page.
There passed away at his late residence, “Waihora,” Featherston, on December 1 ,Mr. Donald Sutherland, m his 60th year. The deceased was was for many years at Waimarama and Clifton stations, during which time he was a well-known figure at all Caledonian gatherings. Some 30 years ago he left Hawke’s Bay to take up farming in the Wairarapa. He leaves a widow, two sons, and one daughter, with whom much sympathy is felt.
