PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE
COUNTY DEFENCE. At the monthly meeting of the Waipukurau County Council on Saturday the chairman referred to the recent attack upon the Public Trust Office in a commercial quarter, and although he believed that it had been retracted, the matter called for an expression of councillors’ opinion. He moved: “That this council treats with contempt the resolution and utterances of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, made recently in Christchurch, in attacking the Public Trust Office, and desires to place on record its opinion that the Public Trustee, in his capacity as trustee, and as the provided of finances to pastoral interests and others, is acting as the medium of control of inflated interest and other charges that banks and other financial institutions may be desirous of placing on the public.” The resolution was seconded by Cr. M. Tansey, who referred to the jealousy that had been aroused by the success of the Public Th-ust Office, and endorsed by Cr. J. H. Kibblewhite, being then carried unanimou'sly.
